To Clerks and PYM reps of Monthly Meetings of Pacific Yearly Meeting
Re: Scholarships from PYM Assistance Fund, 2008
Dear Friends:
Please duplicate and share with your meeting/worship group.
The Annual Session for PYM will be at Walker Creek Ranch July 28 through August 2. PYM’s Special Funds Subcommittee invites applications for scholarships from the Attendance Assistance Fund.
Here’s what each prospective applicant needs to do: 1. Send in your registration form to the conference managers with the note that scholarship assistance has been applied for before June 30 to avoid penalties for late registration. 2. Fill out the Scholarship Application Form and submit to your local monthly meeting by June 1. 3. You state how much you think you can pay yourself, the monthly meeting decides how much they can contribute from their scholarship funds, and then, if necessary, the form is sent on to the PYM Scholarship Assistance Fund by June 30. 4. You are not required to participate as a teacher in the children’s program or as a Junior Yearly Meeting friendly-adult-presence; but working in those programs is another way to pay part of the costs of attending yearly meeting (and of having a wonderful experience too.)
Please note that each application is to come through a Monthly Meeting.
The Assistance Fund is intended as a supplement to what individual Friends and their monthly meetings can provide. These funds are limited. We would like to be able to respond to all applicants, but our experience has been that requests exceed the funds available. Thus we expect to work with a general limit of $125 for individual scholarships and $300 for families, with possible exceptions in special circumstances. We expect that your monthly meeting will provide at least half of the funds needed.
Scholarship money will not be allocated to cover late registration fees, which are imposed if your registration is not postmarked to the registrar by June 30. Your scholarship application and your registration form are processed separately.
For those who have no monthly meeting affiliation, or who have other special circumstances, you may mail the application directly to me, along with an explanation of your situation.
Scholarships are on a first-come, first-served basis. We would love to help you attend, but if you delay we may not be able to help! We welcome your participation in PYM and look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Jean Lester 666 Lombardy Place San Marino, CA 91108 (626) 577-1691 jlester@socal.rr.com |
