Junior Yearly Meeting – the Teen Meeting

Teenagers are invited to participate in Junior Yearly Meeting (JYM). In keeping with Friends’ practices, JYMers select officers and committees as needed, hold business meetings, meetings for worship, worship sharing, and come together in community though fun activities and games.

JYMers generally range in age from 13 to 18. However, the age ranges are only guidelines for selecting which program to participate in; the choice to participate in JYM should be made by the youth and their parent. Some people move up earlier, while others who are less interested in attending business meetings choose to stay in the Middle School program longer. If you would like to discuss the options you can call parent and JYM Committee member Melissa Lovett-Adair at 805-543-2791.

Supervision is provided by adults serving as "Friendly Adult Presences" (FAPs). We are always looking for more FAPs (see the flyer in the registration packet).

For all attendees under the age of 18 - an adult sponsor or a parent must be on site at all times for each person under the age of 18, including day attendees. A signed medical release form and sponsor form must be turned in for the child or teen to participate in the program

Some of the older teens and teens that have been in the program for more than one year will be sleeping in a common shared space. You must be older than 13 or have been in the program for one year already before you can sleep in the shared space. At least one FAP or committee member will be sleeping in this space every night. If you are a light sleeper or need to go to bed early this will probably not be the best for you. The rate for this shared space is the same as the camping rate.

Parents of younger JYMers also have the option of staying with their teens in the Buckeye Lodge which is immediately adjacent to where the JYM shared space will be. You can select this option on your registration form.

If you have any questions or concerns about the JYM program you can contact Michael Eastwood, the clerk of the JYM Adult Committee, at 626-394-9074 or via email at gocarfree@gmail.com.
